Ah, you gotta love grindcore that's legit grind and not some stupid br00tal slam shit or scene wannabee wank. Anyways, this album is fantastic, catchy, and relentless grindcore with awesome vocals to boot.

Funebrarum - The Sleep of Morbid Dreams (2009)

Funebrarum are a fantastic old school style death metal band. That, along with the fact that it's one of the few death metal albums that really have caught my attention this year is all that needs to be said about their newest effort "The Sleep of Morbid Dreams".

Nanda Devi - Fifth Season (2009)

This release went relatively unnoticed in this year's earlier releases, but it caught my ear just enough for me to want to download it for a closer listen. Nanda Devi are an American outfit who play a style of atmospheric sludge akin to early Isis, Pelican, and perhaps Neurosis. This album, their debut, did not fail in inducing fierce headbanging from its dense atmosphere and powerful rhythms and riffing.

Ea - Ea II (2009)

Ea play solid textbook funeral doom metal with long songs (20+ min), guttural vocals, extremely slow pacing, and all around crushing atmosphere. This is close to the best funeral doom I've heard this year.

Father Befouled - Profano Ad Regnum [EP] (2008)

So, it's taken until now to get this piece of filth up on the blog; sorry it took so long but it simply didn't exist on the internet until recently. Anyways, to those who don't know Father Befouled, they are a blasphemous death metal band who take direct influence from Incantation and do a hell of a good job at it. Definitely one of the top death metal bands around these days, keeping right up there with Dead Congregation and the like (although I'd say FB are better). Obviously, get this EP immediately if you're any kind of death metal fan.
