Blasphemophagher - …For Chaos, Obscurity and Desolation… (2010)

Blasphemophagher have returned with a vengeance spawned from hatred of humanity and lust for utter chaos. "...For Chaos..." is of little departure from their debut LP "Nuclear Empire of Apocalypse" bringing you the same unrelenting black/thrash/death madness. Top tier of 2010 metal for sure.

Nazxul - Iconoclast [2009]

Nazxul, after fourteen years of near inactivity, have released a very compelling and epic symphonic Black Metal album. I usually don't pay much attention to Melodic or Symphonic Black Metal, but while browsing through this weeks' new releases much of my attention gathered round this release, and after listening to the album in full I have to say I'll be playing this one more in the future.

Track Listing:

Impiety - Terroreign (Apocalyptic Armageddon Command) [2009]

Goatwhore - Carving Out The Eyes Of God (2009)

1) Apocalyptic Havoc
2) The All-Destroying
3) Carving Out The Eyes Of God
4) Shadow Of A Rising Knife
5) Provoking The Ritual Of Death
6) In Legions, I Am Wars Of Wrath
7) Reckoning Of The Soul Made Godless
8) This Passing Into The Power Of Demons
9) Razor Flesh Devoured
10) To Mourn And Forever Wander Through Forgotten Doorways

I was pleasantly surprised with Goatwhore's new album. Naturally, I was expecting another A Haunting Curse, but this album has a heavier, thrashier feel to it. As far as lyrics go, it's still the same Goatwhore we've all come to love (or not). Overall, Carving Out The Eyes Of God is an improvement from Goatwhore's last album.

Unsurprisingly, the Italians have given us another amazing extreme metal band. Raw, brutal, blackened death metal. Plus, the production isn't complete crap and isn't too polished. And did I mention the imagery is ridiculous?

Peste Noire - Ballade cuntre lo Anemi Francor (2009)

I may be biased (or unreliable in this recommendation) since this is the first Peste Noire album I have heard, but I will say this much: it's mastery of black metal and it blew me away.

Blut aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars (2009)

This is a part of the "elite" black metal albums that have come out this year along with others like the new efforts from Peste Noir, Fen, and Drowning the Light. Blut aus Nord bring an interesting mix of progressiveness, hints of melody, and black metal to the table for a great listen.

Samael - Above (2009)

1.) Under One Flag

2.) Virtual War

3.) Polygames

4.) Earth Country

5.) Illumination

6.) Black Hole

7.) In There

8.) Dark Side

9.) God's Snake

10.) On The Top Of It All

Samael swiss black metal titans come back from their experimental shot Solar Soul with an album that just takes a huge step back into their original black metal roots. This is a must for fans of older Samael material.

Ritual Day - Sky Lake (2003)

1.) Sky Lake

2.) Brown Carriage

3.) The Unholy Year Is Coming

4.) Herity Guide

5.) Deracinate Humanity

6.) Pirate Of Spirit

7.) The Word Of Sky Lake On Height

8.) Puppets Of Lost Souls

9.) Gleam Of Halo

Ritual Day is a break through Chinese black metal band and their first release Sky Lake is melodic, with some clearly  melodic songs as well as some of the old production style songs like The Unholy Year Is Coming. Either way this is a good listen for anyone who is a fan of black metal.

Xasthur - All Reflections Drained (2009)

This is actually my first Xasthur listen and I was NOT disappointed, this album destroys 99% of black metal I've heard. Xasthur play a haunting and brilliant brand of black metal that set it apart from the rest of the crowd. Obviously, any black metal fan should pick this up.

Teitanblood - Seven Chalices (2009)

What a monstrous release we have here; Teitanblood, a relatively unknown cult act hailing from Spain set the bar high for this year's releases with this colossal effort. I believe metal archives categorizes Teitanblood's sound as Black/Death, but to be more specific think Proclamation except with better riffs, more varied structure, and overall more chaotic. Fans of Death and Black metal... don't miss this one!

Track Listing:

1.	Whore Mass	03:10
2.	Domains of Darkness and Ancient Evil	06:36
3.	Interlude (Arabian title)	01:55
4.	Morbid Devil of Pestilence	06:50

Wolves In The Throne Room - Black Cascade (2009)

1.	Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog	10:33
2.	Ahrimanic Trance	14:05
3.	Ex Cathedra	10:58
4.	Crystal Ammunition	14:20
Total playing time 49:16

For those of you who don't know them, Wolves in the Throne Room is an epic black metal band hailing from from Washington state. They keep that raw production of real black metal but always manage to fill their music with something that keeps you listening several times until you digest the music, and finally enjoy it like you should. Nothing has changed, consistent four long songs with the same solid formula. This is one of the very few black metal bands I listen to, and i recommend this to everybody.

Drowning the Light - The Blood of the Ancients (2009)

Certainly in the group of the best black metal albums that will be released this year; these guys know how to create compelling atmosphere while at the same time are very unique.

2.	Night of neverending Turmoil	05:49
3.	Chamber of lost Hope	04:13

Ride For Revenge - Wisdom of the Few (2009)

MA describes these guys as black/death metal; that may be true, however, the doom elements are too strong to be left out. What you have here is a very minimalistic-straightforward approach to raw evil doom. Very catchy and at least the sample song is at least worth your time.

Fen - The Malediction Fields (2009)

1) Exile's Journey
2) A Witness to the Passing of Aeons
3) Colossal Voids
4) As Buried Spirits Stir
5) The Warren
6) Lashed by the Storm
7) Bereft

Fen's basically one of those proggy black metal bands that sound like Enslaved. Nothing really special but I'd put it in my favorite albums this year so far.

Finsterforst - ...zum Tode hin (2009)

1) Urquell
2) Das große Erwachen
3) Seines Glückes Schmied
4) Sturmes Ernte
5) Untergang

You know those folk bands that make albums with five 10-minute songs that are super epic and awesome as hell? Yea? Finsterforst's one of those bands. Imagine Moonsorrow with a little bit more of a black metal edge and more folk instruments...oh yea, and German instead of Finnish.

The Axis of Perdition - Urfe (2009)

*UK Industrial Black Metal/Dark Ambient

This is a dark ambient album with splices of black metal. Constant monologue tells the story of a horrifying struggle.
