Disma - The Vault of Membros (2009)

Disma is band from the good old USA playing a style that has alot of the tendencies of Funebrarum in that they play a filthier version of old school Scandinavian death metal. This demo shows great promise in a struggling genre.

Ignivomous - Death Transmutation (2009)

It came as no surprise that the beastly Ignivomous would release one of the best (if not THE best) Death Metal LPs of 2009. In crude summation, "Death Transmutation" will effectively melt your face and fuck you up. Prepare for an intense experience of 100% molten Death Metal.

This is the third album from this amazing, underrated California heavy metal band. These guys remind me of the great Iron Maiden, with a little punk/Municipal Waste, and a little doom/Black Sabbath in the mix. Their two previous albums are awesomely solid, but this sets the bar even higher for this genre. Metal like this is very rare nowadays.

S:T Erik - From Under the Tarn (2009)

Slow, heavy, crushing DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. Not to mention a little bit of psychedelic-ness (is that even a word?) thrown into the mix. Final verdict: Do check out.

1) Goddess
2) The Search
3) Your Highness
4) Black Wall
5) Swan Song

Bloody Panda - Summon [2009]

Bloody Panda... never had heard of them and had it not been for sake of lucky curiosity I would have never checked them out. After all, it's a pretty dumb name for such an incredible band. "Summon" is some kind of a monumental release, capturing everything that great doom metal should: crushing atmosphere and epic booming riffs. Yep, this is an album that you can really DOOM to, with influences ranging from the hypnotic aesthetics and drone of Sunn O))), to the epic use of organs found in Skepticism, to the intense tormenting atmosphere of Moss. I expect this band to be a big name in extreme doom very soon.

Track Listing:

1.	Gold	10:09
2.	Pusher	05:00
3.	Saccades I	03:46
4.	Saccades II	13:26

Here's another band reppin' the 732. Imagine a cross between Converge, Napalm Death, and Pig Destroyer and you've got Burnt By The Sun.

Municipal Waste - Massive Aggressive (2009)

1) Masked By Delirium
2) Mech-Cannibal
3) Divine Blasphemer
4) Massive Aggresive

13) Acid Sentence

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you can clearly see, I absolutely love the Waste. Here's their latest effort, Massive Aggressive. It's a bit slower and the lyrics are a bit more 'mature' (they stopped singing about zombies and beer), but it still kicks ass.

Behemoth - Evangelion (2009)

1) Daimonos
2) Shemhamforash
3) Ov Fire and the Void
4) Transmigrating Beyond Realms ov Amenti
5) He Who Breeds Pestilence
6) The Seed ov I
7) Alas, Lord is Upon Me
8) Defiling Morality of Black God
9) Lucifer

Behemoth are back with their 9th full-length album, Evangelion. This one is without a doubt a step up from Demigod and The Apostasy. They even debuted at 56 on the Billboard Top 200! Along with Crack the Skye, this is one of the best mainstream metal albums released this year.

Be'lakor - Stone's Reach (2009)

1) Venator
2) From Scythe to Sceptre
3) Outlive the Hand
4) Sun's Delusion
5) Held in Hollows
6) Husks
7) Aspect
8) Countless Skies

There haven't been too many great melodeath releases in the past couple of years. However, Be'lakor's Stone's Reach is among the few recent melodeath albums that won't (or at least shouldn't) be forgotten. Instead of going for the usual Children of Bodom, In Flames or Arsis styles, Be'lakor plays something similar to Opeth's Blackwater Park and the legendary Heartwork and Slaughter of the Soul. The only complaint I have about this album is the average song length, which is hardly a problem and is canceled out by the band's mastery of the genre.

Nazxul - Iconoclast [2009]

Nazxul, after fourteen years of near inactivity, have released a very compelling and epic symphonic Black Metal album. I usually don't pay much attention to Melodic or Symphonic Black Metal, but while browsing through this weeks' new releases much of my attention gathered round this release, and after listening to the album in full I have to say I'll be playing this one more in the future.

Minsk - With Echoes In The Movement Of Stone [2009]

This was a pretty spectacular album. Minsk play doom metal with hints of stoner and sludge, with bands such as Neurosis being an obvious influence. Minsk songs seems to build and progress into something monumental, with this album in my opinion achieving this to the highest extent compared to their two previous works.

Impiety - Terroreign (Apocalyptic Armageddon Command) [2009]

Sunn O))) - Monoliths & Dimensions (2009)

As many already know, Sunn O))) are an infamous Drone Doom band that, in my opinion, are misunderstood by many. About all that needs to be said is that if you get their music, it's some of the most compelling, dark and evil shit out there. For newcomers to this band or for any who are going to pass this up, I beg you to at least listen to "Big Church" by far my favorite on here.

Track Listing:

1.	Aghartha	17:34

Mistress of the Dead - I Know Her Face From The Tombstone (2009)

This is some exquisite funeral doom here; Mistress of the Dead is an obscure cult band who on this album play a mix of saddened funeral doom and ambient to produce one of the more intriguing and moving albums I've heard this year. There is also quite a variety of sound themes here, after the somber journey of the first track the second one takes you to a place darker than that described in Catacomb's music (no exaggeration, I was pleasantly surprised) for example. I would only recommend this album to seasoned funeral doom fans.

Track Listing:

1.	I Know Her Face from the Tombstone	16:51
2.	Embracing Silent Death	14:26
3.	Only Ashes and Remembrance	15:09

Peste Noire - Ballade cuntre lo Anemi Francor (2009)

I may be biased (or unreliable in this recommendation) since this is the first Peste Noire album I have heard, but I will say this much: it's mastery of black metal and it blew me away.

Blut aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars (2009)

This is a part of the "elite" black metal albums that have come out this year along with others like the new efforts from Peste Noir, Fen, and Drowning the Light. Blut aus Nord bring an interesting mix of progressiveness, hints of melody, and black metal to the table for a great listen.
